MYSORE
Mysore, also known as “City of Palaces” is
130 kms from Bangalore and is situated at an altitude
of 763 m from sea level. The famous “Chamundi Hill”,
which is mythologically associated with the name of the
city, is to its southeast. The city is famous for Mysore
Silk and various Sandalwood productsa.
Mysore Palace: Built in Ind – Saracenic style, complete
with domes, turrets, arches and colonnades, the Mysore
Palace is everything you imagine a palace to be. A treasure
house of artifacts, the palace is a must–see during
your time in the state.
Brindavan Gardens: This garden spread over 150 acres adjacent
to the KRS dam is one of the most impressive gardens of
its kind in India. The “Dancing Fountains”
and the illuminations in the evenings offers a spectacular
view.
Srirangapatna : located 5 kms from Mysore was the headquarters
of Tipu Sultan. “Daria Daulat”, Tipu Sultan’s
summer palace is one of Karnataka’s most imposing
monuments. The “Gumbaz”, Tipu’s mausoleum,
with its ivory–inlaid doors and black marble pillars
is also a great attraction. The Fort at Srirangapatna
is from where Tipu charged at the British soldiers with
his legendary sword. An obelisk in the fort marks the
place where he fell – betrayed by his own men.
Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary: 4 kms from Srirangapatna,
this bird sanctuary is home to several exotic species
of birds. Birds from as far away as Siberia come here
every year. |
